What to Get Your Co-Workers

It’s that time of the year when your bosses are starting to slack you about Christmas events in the office whether that be Secret Santa, White Elephant or some new version of “mandatory fun”.

Then, when the event nears, you totally panic because you’re already struggling to find gifts for your family, and now you have to get something for that coworker you’re not that close to but somehow know random details about. You know when they arrive, when they go out for lunch, maybe even what they always order. You’ve got a vague sense of their hobbies, but not enough to shop with confidence. And then you hit a wall and start googling up gift guides written by Byrdie or New York Times or Vogue or any magazine companies.

Let me make life easier. Here are a few no-brainer gift ideas that your co-workers would appreciate:

Pay attention to what they get for lunch

Over the next few days, watch what your Secret Santa pick usually eats for lunch. You’ll start to notice patterns: maybe they get Avo every single day, or they’re loyal to that one Mediterranean spot. Once you get a sense of their taste, grab a gift card from their go-to restaurant. It’s simple, personal, and guaranteed to be used.

Check out Givingli

Our co-founder, Alessandro, recently introduced me to this gifting company called Givingli. Disclaimer: This is not sponsored but Givingli is basically a site where you send digital gift cards and a card for any occasion. There’s a bunch of different giftcards for Sephora, Target, DoorDash, Ulta, etc but the best part is that it allows you to choose Givingli cash which is an option for the guest to choose any giftcard of their liking. When I first tried it, I thought, “If someone sent this to me, I’d actually be excited.”

Play it safe with office staples

There are some things that people always bring to the office whether that be a tumbler, planner, or a mug. There are also some nice-to-have items that would no doubt be appreciated like some scented candles or hand creams especially when it’s getting colder in New York. Worst case, if they don’t like having these in the office, they can bring it home and make their homes cozier.

Some little extra thoughts

Seasonal depression is real and it’s going to be like this in the next few months. Consider something that boosts mood or comfort like electrolytes supplements, sunlight lamp, a massage gun, or a Hatch alarm clock. These might be little luxuries that might just make life feel a bit easier or uplifting.

At the end of the day, gifts are all about the intention. You don’t have to be best friends but you do have to try. So, lock in these next few days, pay attention to what they enjoy doing because you’ll be surprised at how much you can observe just by seeing their patterns. They’ll appreciate the effort either way <3
