Summer in NYC
Hi, I'm Sifrah. I'm stepping into the catering coordinator role at Avo, taking the baton from Isabel who has been an incredible mentor these past few months.
New chapter, new role, and summer in New York as the backdrop. Not a bad way to start!
We're doing something fun this June. Every direct order of $300 or more will automatically be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a Dyson Hush Jet Mini Cool Fan. We're picking 3 winners :)) Consider it our way of making your summer a little cooler.
The City Shifts
There's a specific moment every year when New York stops being something you survive and starts being something you actually want to be in. It usually happens sometime in late May: the sun starts setting past 8pm, the park fills up without anyone planning it, and suddenly everyone you haven't seen since February is texting you about rooftops.
Spring this year was chaotic, as it always is: fifty degrees on a Tuesday, tank tops by Thursday, a surprise cold front that had everyone digging out their coats again. But then the warmth stuck. And the city collectively exhaled.
That exhale is what summer in New York actually is. It's not a calendar date. It's a feeling. And once it hits, the city becomes a completely different place.
How to Actually Live It
New York summers go fast. Faster than you think when you're in them. Here's how to make sure you're actually present for it:
Wear your SPF. The UV index hits hard once June arrives. SPF 30 or higher, reapplied every two hours — even on cloudy days, even just walking to lunch. A mineral sunscreen doubles as a primer. No excuses.
Carry a portable fan. This sounds obvious right up until you're packed into an August subway car and realize you left yours at home. A small rechargeable fan fits in any bag and will genuinely change your quality of life.
Actually use happy hour. Rooftop bars, extended patios, golden evenings. Happy hour was built for reconnecting with the person you've been meaning to see since March. Say yes more.
Sit in the park on purpose. Central Park, Domino, Prospect, the High Line. The movie nights at Brooklyn Bridge Park and Bryant Park deserve a special mention. Bring a blanket, pack some food, resist the urge to scroll.
Eat fresh, feel good. Summer is the season your body stops craving heavy and starts craving bright. Our bowls and smoothies were made for exactly this — something that fuels you without slowing you down. A Mango Passion Smoothie on the way to the park is a small thing that lands like a big one. Eating well in summer gets easy when it also tastes good.
You don't need a grand plan. Just show up to the park, the patio, the rooftop, and the moment. The season rewards people who actually let themselves be in it.
Before we let you go, we've teamed up with Lashes on 5th this summer because a great glow-up and great food are not mutually exclusive. Book online and use code AVO40 for 40% off lashes and brow services. Step into the season feeling like yourself.
We'll be here to fuel you. Come find us.
